The easiest way to choose things to do in Calpe<\/strong> is to divide your visit into three areas: the old town, the seafront and the surroundings of the Pe\u00f1\u00f3n de Ifach. That gives you a mix of heritage, beaches and nature without turning a day trip into a race.<\/p>\n

This guide focuses on sightseeing and coastal scenery. Climbing the rock is a separate undertaking, requiring a reservation and preparation. You can enjoy Calpe, its famous outline and the sea without reaching the summit.<\/p>\n

1. Start in the old town<\/h2>\n

Spend the first part of the morning in the historic centre. Look for the Torre\u00f3 de la Pe\u00e7a, the remains of the town walls and the Iglesia Antigua, then explore the streets around the Forat de la Mar. These landmarks help you find your bearings among houses, small squares and quieter corners.<\/p>\n

Leave time to look around rather than planning your entire visit around a photograph of a staircase. Keep doorways clear and respect residents. Arenal-Bol lets you add a seafront stroll to your time in the centre. La Fossa, also called Levante beach, offers another view of Ifach and a promenade lined with businesses. Make one your main beach stop if you only have a few hours.<\/p>\n

In summer, follow beach flags when swimming and avoid walking in the strongest sun. Outside the main season, the beach is still a place to stroll, but do not expect every summer service to operate. If you need assisted bathing, confirm dates, conditions and any booking requirements with Calpe Tourist Information; an urban beach does not guarantee a year-round service.<\/p>\n

3. Understand the Ba\u00f1os de la Reina<\/h2>\n

Between the town and the harbour lies the Roman site of Ba\u00f1os de la Reina. The rock-cut pools beside the water belong to a wider archaeological landscape, including remains of homes and baths. They should not be treated simply as natural swimming pools.<\/p>\n

Distinguish looking from the promenade from visiting the archaeological enclosure. Check current access and guided visits before building your day around admission. Avoid climbing on remains or approaching the pools in rough seas; a safe viewpoint still helps explain their connection with the water.<\/p>\n

4. Watch birds at the salt flats<\/h2>\n

The salt flats bring a wetland into Calpe\u2019s urban landscape. Flamingos and herons are among the birds that may be seen, but their numbers and distance from visitors vary. A particular wildlife photograph cannot be guaranteed.<\/p>\n

Bring binoculars if you have them, remain on designated access routes and watch quietly. Do not feed birds or approach the water for a better picture. A short, unhurried stop is preferable to trying to follow every edge of the lagoon without checking signs.<\/p>\n

5. Explore the harbour and the foot of Ifach<\/h2>\n

The harbour adds a maritime stop to your day. Walk in public areas and consider lunch if it fits your plans, while respecting working spaces. Do not assume you can enter the fish market or watch an auction; confirm that day\u2019s arrangements for an organised visit.<\/p>\n

The ecological walk along Ifach\u2019s southern base is separate from the ascent. Calpe Tourist Information describes a natural-stone path of almost a kilometre each way. 6. Climbing Pe\u00f1\u00f3n de Ifach: plan it separately<\/h2>\n

The Red Route requires an individual advance reservation throughout the year. Check availability and instructions in the Generalitat\u2019s official booking system. Walking around the harbour does not mean you have reserved access to the trail.<\/p>\n

The section beyond the tunnel has more difficult terrain. The official guide advises against continuing for under-18s and in rain or fog. Take walking boots and water, check notices and avoid squeezing an unplanned climb between sightseeing stops. For an easy day out, keep to the town and coast.<\/p>\n
